Create a Company Newsfeed in Notion

In working with a recent client, they requested an “updates feed” on their Notion dashboard to easily share announcements, news, and other general information with their global team.

Here’s how we accomplished it (watch the video or read the guide below).

Step 1: Create the Announcements Database

Add whatever properties you’d like, such as Announcement (details), Category, Date Added (created time), and Link(s).

The ‘Latest’ checkbox is required to make this setup work.

Step 2: Create Two Linked Database Views

Create two linked database views on your desired dashboard page — one for the ‘Latest’ post, and one for all of the other posts.

Set up the ‘Latest’ post view;

  • use the Gallery card layout

  • add a filter (if ‘Latest’ is checked)

  • show properties: Announcement, Date Added and Category

Set up the ‘Newsfeed’ view;

  • use the List layout

  • add a filter (if ‘Latest’ is not checked)

  • show properties: Date Added and Category

Step 3: Set Up ‘Latest Post’ Automation

To prevent multiple entries showing in the Recent Announcements section, create the following automation;

  • Tigger: When a new page is added

  • Action:

    • Edit all pages in the database and uncheck the ‘Latest’ checkbox property

    • Set Latest to ‘checked’

This automation will remove the the checkbox from the previous announcement, and add it to the newly added entry.

And that’s it!
